I love food trucks- LOVE them. I frequent the food cart pods in Portland every chance I can get. I scour the city for them when I go to Los Angeles. I loved when El Fat Cat closed their brick and mortar restaurant in downtown Kennewick and took a chance opening their food truck (which is now located by Kamiakin High School). But unfortunately, we have only a handful here in the Tri-Cities so when Kindra’s Wok n’Roll opened this week in Richland, it was high on my list of priorities for the week. Having already had their famous egg rolls at many an event, i knew the food would not disappoint. Whats even better though is the cause which the truck supports.
The KMP Foundation has had a cult following for over a year now- lovers of Kai’s fresh fried egg rolls order them by the dozens via their FaceBook page and email. But not only are the egg rolls incredibly delicious but proceeds from sales go to the non-profit organization their family started to assist in providing “help and hope to those whose lives are affecting by poverty”, specifically less fortunate children and their families- all in the memory of Kindra M. Phengsavanh, a little 5 year old girl who’s life was tragically ended last April, for whom the organization is named after- KMP Foundation.
They pursued another dream this spring with the venture of a food truck which opened this week in the John Day Dam Plaza right across from the Richland Red Lion. On their menu of course are their famous egg rolls but they have expanded to offer banh mi- a Vietnamese sandwich, chicken phad Thai, chicken teriyaki, potstickers, and a fried banana smothered in chocolate and fresh coconut. All of their food is made to order and its clearly homeade from family recipes.
The food is not only fabulous but the service is outstanding! And who can resist a lunch in the park when the sun is shining on a warm late spring day? It is the perfect mid-workday lunch spot or for a quick bite after pursuing the Parkway Farmers Market on Fridays. Go and show your support for a great cause and for food trucks in the Tri-Cities!
